Tiji Festival is
also known as The Chasing of Demons the locals in Mustang. This three day
ritual is enthusiastically celebrated with total keenness. Mythological stories
describes the history of this festival where a legendary deity plays his major
role. The deity name Dorje Jono who
had to battle against his devil father in order to save his kingdom from being
destroyed. His father tries to inflict chaos in Mustang that could turn out
misery in the kingdom. The demon was trying to eliminate all water resources
from there. Resource that was the most vital requirement for sustaining life.
Ultimately,
Jono defeats his father and saves Mustang from being destroyed. The settlers
yelled out in joy that cause the celebration of the Tiji Festival till date. Being
reaffirmation of this myth, every aspect of the event and entire story are
reconsidered. This festival is scheduled to occur at the end of dry season and
ushers in the monsoon season. The name of the festival; Tiji, is derived from
the phrase Ten Che, which means Hopes of Buddha Prevailing in the World. The
festival is also known to renew spring season that celebrates the victory over
evil in Mustang.
